Chuck Grillo

Chuck Grillo (* 24. July 1939 in Hibbing , Minnesota ) is an American Hockey - Scout and former general manager of the NHL - Franchise of the San Jose Sharks . He is currently on the Pittsburgh Penguins' scouting team .

Career

Grillo started as a scout in the National Hockey League (NHL) back in 1980 . For eight years until 1988 he worked in the New York Rangers' scouting system . He then went to the Minnesota North Stars , before he was signed for the 1991/92 season by the San Jose Sharks . After the first general manager of the franchise, Jack Ferreira , was dismissed from his post after the first season, Grillo took over the management of the team together with the then coach George Kingston and Dean Lombardi . Grillo stayed with Lombardi until the end of the 1996/97 season after Kingston had left the franchise after the 1992/93 season . Grillo was therefore also responsible for signing the eventual Calder Memorial Trophy winner Evgeni Nabokov . After his time with the Sharks, he moved to the Scouting Team of the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he went into his sixth season for the 2006/07 season. Among other things, he was responsible for the selection of Sidney Crosby , Evgeni Malkin , Jordan Staal , Marc-André Fleury and Ryan Whitney in various entry drafts .

In addition, together with his wife Clairene, Grillo founded and oversees the Minnesota Hockey Camps , an extremely successful junior program for American ice hockey players.
