Al Coates

Al Coates (born December 3, 1945 in Listowel , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey official in the National Hockey League .

Career

Coates began his career in the National Hockey League in the early 1970s with the Detroit Red Wings . He then moved to the Calgary Flames in 1979 , where he held various positions until 2000. Among other things, he worked as General Manager of the Flames between 1995 and 2000 .

In 2003 he joined the franchise of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on, for which he as a senior advisor from 2004 until 2005, as general manager worked. The Canadian was named Player Personnel Director of the Toronto Maple Leafs in June 2008 .

In January 2009, Al Coates was removed from office and fired by Leafs General Manager Brian Burke . He received the Thomas Ebright Award in 2006 for his services to the American Hockey League .
