Milenko Ačimovič (born February 15, 1977 in Ljubljana , Yugoslavia ) is a former Slovenian football player .
Career
Ačimovič began his career at home with Železničar Maribor. In 1996 he moved to NK Olimpija Ljubljana , from where he moved to Serbia to FK Red Star Belgrade . At Roter Stern he was twice champion and cup winner in Serbia and Montenegro . In 2002 he moved to England to Tottenham Hotspur , where he could not assert himself enough. After two more years at Lille OSC in France , Ačimovič went to Al-Ittihad . After a year in Saudi Arabia , he moved to FK Austria Wien in January 2007 . Here he was soon one of the key players. Ačimovič was in the 2008/09 season together with Rubin Okotie with 14 goals the most successful goalscorer of his club. In addition, he scored the two decisive goals in extra time in the 3-1 victory in the 2009 Cup final against Admira Mödling . His strengths include taking free kicks and corner kicks. In the 13th round of the 2008/09 Bundesliga season on October 18, 2008 against LASK , he hit the goal with a corner kick. Since the 2009/10 season he was the team captain. At Easter 2010 he sustained a knee injury from which he was unable to recover properly. Therefore, on September 15, 2010, he announced the end of his career.
Then he became the sports director of Olimpija Laibach . On September 11, 2013 Austria Klagenfurt announced that Ačimovič is about to make a comeback. However, he did not play a competitive game.
He made his international debut for Slovenia on April 22, 1998 against the Czech Republic . He took part in both the 2000 European Championship and the 2002 World Championship and played three games each. He scored a goal at the World Cup.
