The SK Austria Klagenfurt is an Austrian football club from the Carinthian capital Klagenfurt . His club colors are purple and white. The club has played in the 2nd division since the 2018/19 season .

history

From October 2011 to February 2019 President: Peter Svetits

SK Austria Klagenfurt was officially founded on January 19, 2007, but only intervened in 2010 in a syndicate with SC St. Stefan im Lavanttal . The club is seen by many fans as the successor to the old Austria Klagenfurt , founded in 1920 , which - active as FC Kärnten since 1999 - had to finally stop playing in 2009. The new syndicate entered the Regionalliga Mitte with some players from the former FC Kärnten and the insolvent SK Austria Kärnten . The club should receive around 550,000 euros in funding from the city of Klagenfurt when it starts in the regional league. The money was part of the approximately 1.3 million euros that had previously been reserved as support for SK Carinthia and were released with the refusal of its Bundesliga license.

On June 1, 2011, insolvency proceedings were opened against the still young club at the Klagenfurt Regional Court . According to the credit protection association of 1870, the liabilities amounted to around 350,500 euros and the assets 16,700 euros. The reasons given were too high player salaries and a lack of sponsorship money and funding from the city of Klagenfurt. On October 25, 2011, the creditors agreed to a 20 percent compensation quota.

Under coach Manfred Bender, he was promoted to the first division

On 27 October 2011, Peter Svetits , the last of Frank Stronach in Wiener Neustadt SC had been hired as athletic director, elected during the General Assembly of SK Austria Klagenfurt no votes against the new president of the club. Svetits promised to bring the club back to professional football. A power struggle subsequently developed between Svetits and the vice-presidents Matthias Dollinger senior (†), the father of the player Matthias Dollinger junior , and Heimo Vorderegger , which ended on August 28, 2014 with the removal of the two vice-presidents. The conflict subsequently preoccupied the courts, because Dollinger was granted an injunction in the second instance by the Graz Higher Regional Court , which revoked his dismissal. After the association had appealed against it, it did not become legally binding. As Svetits emphasized, “in future only people should play a role who also support the association financially”. In January 2015, the Graz Higher Regional Court finally ruled in favor of the association.

Dietmar Thuller was the coach of the club playing in the Regionalliga Mitte from May 4 to August 21, 2012. Günther Gorenzel-Simonitsch, who was working as assistant trainer at the time, was mainly responsible for a week and a coaching session on August 24, 2012 in the 1-0 win against Villacher SV . Bruno Friesenbichler was then hired until March 17, 2013, followed by Heimo Vorderegger until the end of the season. At the beginning of the 2013/14 season, Jože Prelogar was committed, who was replaced by his assistant coach Alexander Suppantschitsch before the start of the 2014 spring season.

In 2014, SK Austria Klagenfurt won the Carinthian Football Cup (KFV Cup), which was reintroduced in 2006/07 for the first time .

For the 2014/15 season, the former Bayern Munich player Manfred Bender was hired as coach, who led the Klagenfurters six points ahead of SK Vorwärts Steyr to the championship title in the Regionalliga Mitte. The Carinthians were thus qualified for the relegation games to the First League . There they met the Burgenland club SC-ESV Parndorf 1919 , who took part in the relegation as second in the table of the Regionalliga Ost after the champions SC Ritzing had been denied the license for the First League. In the home game on June 5, 2015, the Burgenland won 2-1, the second leg the Klagenfurt won 4-1 three days later after extra time. Thus, the rise of the Carinthians in the first league, the second highest division, was fixed.

A sponsor was won in the summer of 2014 with the German agency Hanseatisches Fußball Kontor GmbH . This will initially participate in the players' salaries until 2019. In return, the company participates in the profit when selling players according to a defined distribution key. On August 20, 2015, Managing Director Kai-Volker Langhinrichs moved into the Klagenfurt club's management as Vice President. On March 16, 2016, after the 2-0 home defeat against SC Wiener Neustadt , the Klagenfurt team separated by mutual agreement from coach Bender, after he had previously announced that he would leave the club at the end of the season. The previous assistant coach Gerhard Fellner was initially appointed as his successor . Although Austria had reached eighth place in the league, they still had to relegate because they did not receive a license. A further objection before the Permanent Neutral Arbitration Court could not change anything after a license had already been refused in the first and second instance.

After coach Fellner beginning of January 2017. Wiener Neustadt SC was changed, the Klagenfurt pledged on January 29th to from Ruden originating Franz Polanz as their new coach. This had u. a. also played for two years from 1984 to 1986 for the predecessor club Austria Klagenfurt, later known as FC Kärnten. In addition, the former Bundesliga player Marco Weißhaupt was hired as the new sports director on January 17, 2017 . In May 2017, Klagenfurt Austria won the KFV Cup again .

In the 2017/18 season, as fifth place, as FC Gleisdorf 09 had not applied for admission , you could get promoted back to the 2nd division .

In October 2018 Robert Micheu became the new trainer of SK Austria Klagenfurt.

In the 2018/19 season , the Klagenfurt team struggled for a long time in the first half of the 2nd division , and only wintered in 13th place, one point before a relegation rank.

In February the long-time president Peter Svetits retired and left the association. On February 19, 2019, it became known that Tomislav Karajica , owner of the Hamburg company Home United, had bought the club along with its debts. Ivica Peric became the new President of Austria Klagenfurt. With the fourth best spring performance, Austria made it into the top half of the table and was able to finish the season in 8th place.

Youth football

At SK Austria Klagenfurt teams train in youth football from the smallest in the U6 to the second combat team. As the head of the youth division, the Austria Amateurs play their championship games after promotion to the Lower League East. Young players are introduced to adult football earlier than usual and repeatedly make the leap into the combat team prematurely.

Every year the youngsters from Austria organize the “Wörthersee Cup” in the EM stadium and the “Lindwurm Futsal Cup” in the Lerchenfeld hall . Both tournaments are stormed by teams from home and abroad.

Fans

The club has several registered fan clubs: Die Schwarze Seele Kärnten (SSK), the Barracudas 1995 and the Carinthian Warriors. The SSK and the barracudas are ultra- oriented. The fan clubs visit the south curve of the Wörthersee Stadium . In addition to the official fan clubs, there are other fan associations. In 2008, the southern front functions as one of the leading groups in the scene, but is not run as an official fan club.

The fan clubs are linked by the umbrella organization “Wir.Austrianer”, under which choreographies, fan trips or various fundraising campaigns for charitable purposes are carried out.
