The SV Licht-Loidl Lafnitz is an Austrian football club in the Styrian municipality of Lafnitz . The club has played in the 2nd division since the 2018/19 season .
history
The club, which belongs to the Styrian Football Association , was founded in 1964 and mainly played in the lower classes of Styria.
When Bernhard Loidl, who previously supported the club with his company Licht Loidl as a sponsor, took over the chairmanship in 2009, the club achieved great sporting successes. He gave the club new structures that had a positive effect on sporting performance. In a two-year rhythm, championship titles were celebrated with which the promotion from the sixth level to the third level, the Middle Regional League, was achieved by 2013.
At the same time, in 2011 and 2012, the old, dilapidated sports field was transformed into a new, neat football arena with a new clubhouse and new grandstand. Although the municipality has just 1400 inhabitants, the capacity is around 2000 spectators. While an average of around 800 spectators attended the home games in the regional league, there are currently around 1000 visitors in the regional league, most of whom come from neighboring Burgenland . Around 100 fans even accompany the team at away games.
Most of the team's players come from the region, which means that there is a special bond with the spectators. There are some former players from the neighboring first division club TSV Hartberg at SV Licht-Loidl Lafnitz.
Two players made the leap into professional football via Lafnitz: Croatian Domagoj Bešlić , who returned to Lafnitz in January 2018, switched to second division SK Austria Klagenfurt in 2015 ; Albert Vallci joined the second-class SV Horn in 2016 .
Promotion to the 2nd division
Christian Waldl, who holds the UEFA A license , came from USV Hartberg Umgebung in summer 2012 and immediately managed to lead the team to win the title in the Styrian regional league . In September 2015, they separated from Waldl. Waldl's successor was the former Austrian international Ferdinand Feldhofer .
In the first season under Feldhofer, the sixth place in the table was reached. The East Styrians finished the second season two points behind the champions TSV Hartberg in second place in the table. In the 2017/18 season the time had finally come: after SV Lafnitz had been leading the table without interruption since the 13th matchday, the promotion was fixed on the 26th matchday with a 3-0 win over the amateurs of Wolfsberger AC . The ascent was finally sealed by the granting of approval; the association received approval in the first instance. In addition, the team around coach Feldhofer was able to secure the championship title in the regional league middle early on matchday 28 with a 3-1 win over pursuers FC Gleisdorf 09 .
