Joshua Janos Gregor Steiger (born April 6, 2001 ) is an Austrian soccer player .
Career
society
Steiger started his career at TSU Matrei . Between 2011 and 2012 he played for TSU Virgen , after which he returned to Matrei. In 2015 he moved to the academy of Wolfsberger AC .
Without having played for the U-18 team or the amateurs beforehand, Steiger received a contract valid until June 2020 in June 2017 and moved up to the professional squad. According to the former WAC professional Manuel Weber , the German second division club FC Ingolstadt 04 was also interested in Steiger. He first made his debut in July 2017 for the amateurs of the WAC in the Regionalliga when he came on as a substitute for Jan Gruber in the 84th minute on the first match day of the 2017/18 season against USV Allerheiligen .
In August 2017, he finally made his first appearance for the professionals in the Bundesliga when he was brought into the game for Dominik Frieser on matchday five against FC Admira Wacker Mödling in the 71st minute . Through that commitment, he became the first player in the Bundesliga to be born in the 21st century . At the beginning of November 2017, Steiger tore a ligament during training and was therefore out until the beginning of December 2017.
For the 2020/21 season he was awarded to the second division club SV Lafnitz . His contract with the WAC had previously been extended to June 2022.
National team
In September 2016, Steiger made his debut for the U-16s of the Austrian national team. A year later he played for the U-17 team for the first time as part of the Youth Toto Cup against Finland .
In October 2018 he made his debut against Switzerland for the U-18 team . In September 2019 he played for the U-19 team for the first time against Latvia . In the game that Austria won 3-2, he also scored his first goal for the U-19s.
