The Kapfenberger SV (officially Kapfenberger Sportvereinigung ) is an Austrian sports and football club from the Styrian town of Kapfenberg . It has been an independent branch of the Kapfenberg Sports Association since 1997 . Since relegation in 2012, the club has played in the second division . The club colors are red and white .

history

Kapfenberger SC

The predecessor of the club was founded on September 4, 1919 as the Kapfenberger Sportclub . Kapfenberger SC was playing in 1st class in Styria as early as 1922 and celebrated its first major success by winning the Styrian State Cup. In 1925 the club became champions of Upper Styria, but lost the game for the Styrian championship against SK Sturm Graz with a clear 1: 4. Kapfenberger SC achieved the best placement in 1st class in the 1935/36 season with 3rd place. In the 1940/41 game year , qualification for the top division with second place behind SK Sturm Graz was just missed. In the following season the club finally won the championship title of the Gauliga Steiermark but was not allowed to move up to the highest league, as this was temporarily reserved for the Viennese clubs again. In 1942/43 Kapfenberger SC won the Styrian championship with a 0-2 and 6-1 success against BSG Rosental and thus qualified for the promotion games to the Gauliga Ostmark . With three wins and one defeat, the club failed only because of the goal difference at LSV Markersdorf an der Pielach . After the war, Kapfenberger SC played very successfully in the newly founded Styrian regional league and was always among the top three.

Kapfenberger SV

On March 23, 1947, the club was finally re-established as the Kapfenberg sports association with the additional sections table tennis , handball and skiing . The soccer department of the Kapfenberg Sports Association achieved its greatest successes in the 1950s and 1960s when it was part of the A-League and in the 1980s when it was part of the 2nd division .

The winged wordSimmering - Kapfenberg, das nenn i brutality”, which the Austrian cabaret artist and actor Helmut Qualtinger created with a statement by his fictional character Travnicek, also comes from this time . Qualtinger attended a match between the two clubs on October 12, 1958. In a tough, but neither unfair nor brutal game, Kapfenberg striker Helmut "Haube" Hauberger scored 1-0 in the first half, clashed with Simmering goalkeeper Bruno Engelmaier in the last minute and suffered an open bone fracture, whereupon he lost his career had to quit as a soccer player.

In 1997 the club, which was previously run as a section of the Kapfenberg Sports Association, became a legally independent club.

After 15 years in the Styrian regional league and in the regional league center , the club has been playing in the second highest division, the first division, since the 2002/03 season . In the 2004/05 season , the club failed as a runner-up behind the SV Ried team on promotion to the Bundesliga . After the soaring, the 2006/07 season ended on a relegation point, only the simultaneous withdrawal of the Grazer AK and Admira led to remaining in the league at the green table. Just one season later, the Falken were able to secure promotion to the Bundesliga with a 1-1 draw at SV Bad Aussee three rounds before the end .

Start in the Bundesliga

On July 9, 2008 , KSV played for the first time in 41 years in the top division of Austria. Opponent that evening was LASK Linz , who won the game with a 1-0 win. On May 9, 2009, with a 2-0 win over SK Austria Kärnten , three rounds before the end, the relegation could be fixed. In the end, the season ended in eighth place.

History happened on November 1, 2009, the 14th match day of the 2009/10 season , when Kapfenberg was second to last in the table after 13 league games with eight goals scored. In the 14th round they met LASK in front of their own audience, who they defeated 7-2. For Kapfenberger SV, this result means the highest victory in the Bundesliga history of the club, which ultimately took 9th place in the 2009/10 season ahead of relegated Carinthia. If in the 2010/11 season it was still the penultimate to secure the league, they ended up in last place with 23 points in the 2011/12 season and had to take the bitter path to the "Today for Tomorrow First League". Due to the sporting failures, they separated from successful coach Werner Gregoritsch in November 2011. His successor was Thomas von Heesen , who continued to look after the club in the second division, but was released from his coaching duties on November 10, 2012 and replaced by the previous junior coordinator, Klaus Schmidt . In June 2013, the club separated from coach Klaus Schmidt by mutual agreement, although he had a successful record. His successor is the previous KSV amateur trainer and former Austrian ex-international Kurt Russ .

Sponsorship

The official name of the club, including the sponsor's name in the 2005/06 season, was SV Stadtwerke Kapfenberg . In its history, the club appeared for a long time as KSV Böhler to point out the sponsorship activities of the Böhler-Werke . In the 2007/2008 season, the main sponsor was again the Böhler-Werke , as the Stadtwerke had not extended the contract.

The outfitters are the sporting goods company Erima and the company Peeroton. Until 2003, Puma AG was the supplier to Kapfenberg. In July 2008, the investment group Superfund became the club's main sponsor, which is why the team appeared as KSV Superfund , including the sponsor 's name.

August 9, 2008

Kapfenberger SV plays its home games in the Franz-Fekete-Stadion . The stadium was opened in 1950 under the name Alpenstadion and has been named after the former Kapfenberg mayor Franz Fekete since 2001. It has 2000 seats on the covered main grandstand, with 1500 additional seats to be installed in 2009. Also in 2009 they want to cover the almost 8,000 standing places, which are meanwhile still in the open air. Namesake Fekete died on February 20, 2009 at the age of 87.

Fan scene

Kapfenberger SV has a rather small fan scene. There are currently three fan groups, all of which have only a few members. The fan group with the longest existence are the "REDS", who founded their fan club in 2003 and whose membership is mostly made up of young people from Upper Styria. The other two fan groups are "The Wild Falcons" and "The Gray Falcons". There was also a fan club called "KSV-Commando Nord", which however disbanded again. Since the 2009/10 season, one of the sectors of the stadium has had its own fan block, which is only accessible to season ticket holders and members of the fan clubs. By the end of the 2008/09 season, the various supporters were spread across the stadium. Since then, people have been working together to create a better atmosphere during the games.
