history
Foundation and early years
SV Horn was founded on October 21, 1922. At the first general assembly, Rudolf Zotter was elected chairman and Otto Wimmer chairman deputy of the newly founded association. The club's colors of blue and white, which still exist today and correspond to the city colors of Horner, were decided on June 21, 1923. In 1927 the SV Horn changed its name to Rapid Horn . Two years after SV Horn was founded, a second football club was formed in Horn in 1924 with the ASK Horn. The union of these two clubs to form SV Horn took place in 1947.
The first games were played in 1923 on a square on Frauenhofnerstrasse. In 1927 the club moved to the Hopfgarten, today's Union-Platz , where the football games were played until 1949. After that, SV Horn played its games in its new home on Jahnwiese . Another change of home took place in 1957, when the SV Horn was offered a plot of land in Hopfgarten and the games were played on the Hopfgarten sports field from October 10, 1958 . In the 1970s, the sports facility was expanded, with the new floodlight system opening on August 2, 1972 in a game against the frequent Austrian football champions Rapid Wien . In 2007 the grandstand was expanded again and in 2008 a floodlight system suitable for television and Bundesliga was added. The last comprehensive modernization of the stadium facility took place in the winter of 2011/12, with the stadium name being renamed to the Waldviertler Volksbank Arena .
The SV Horn played the first decades of its existence in the lower divisions of the Lower Austrian regional association. The first promotion to the Lower Austrian regional league took place in the 1987/88 season, the first promotion to the Regionalliga Ost managed the SV Horn in the 1990/91 season. There the club was initially able to hold for a few years, rose again in the 1996/97 season in the national league. There they managed in the 1997/98 season to immediately return to the Regionalliga, where they were relegated again after two more seasons.
First sustainable ascent
In the 2006/07 season they made their way back to the Regionalliga, from where eight successful years began for SV Horn. The club reached the quarter-finals in the ÖFB Cup in the 2006/07 season (failed 3-1 at FC Red Bull Salzburg II ) and the second round in the 2008/09 season (failed 0-1 at SK Sturm Graz ).
In the 2011/12 season , SV Horn became champions of the Regionalliga Ost for the first time in club history and was promoted to the first division . SV Horn won the relegation match against the champions of the Regionalliga West, WSG Wattens , with a 5-1 win away and a 4-0 win at home. The newcomer to the league was successful under coach Michael Streiter in the 2012/13 season and finished sixth and was able to keep the class with seventh place in 2013/14 without his successful coach .
Another setback
In September 2014, coach Willhelm Schuldes was replaced after twelve rounds because the Horns were only on the penultimate place in the table. He was succeeded by his previous co-trainer Christoph Westerthaler . In May 2015, SV Horn lost 3-0 in the relegation final against FC Wacker Innsbruck in the Tivoli Stadium and was relegated to the Regionalliga after three years. Coach Christoph Westerthaler was replaced by Hans Kleer from Floridsdorfer AC . Chairman Thomas Kronsteiner handed the management over to Rudolf Laudon. Kronsteiner, who was also the club's largest financier, declared that he wanted to withdraw.
Promotion to the first division and entry of Honda Estilo
In June 2015 Keisuke Honda, together with his brothers Hiroyuki and Youji, took over 49% of the shares in Horn through their agency "Honda ESTILO". The aim is to return to the first league as well as the Bundesliga and participation in the European Cup. Honda invested more than two million euros itself with the help of a Japanese lawyer from Vienna, installed a cousin of Keisuke Honda as co-chairman alongside Laudon and won a Japanese supplier and Japanese sponsors, including Tokyo Nishikawa , a mattress manufacturer from Tokyo , for SV Horn . As a result, and with seven new players from Japan and, since April 2016, a Japanese coach, 44-year-old Masanori Hamayoshi , he was promoted back to the first division in May 2016. Despite the sporting successes that could be achieved under the influence of the Japanese, criticism is sometimes expressed because of the lost identity of the club.
The 2016/17 season was not very successful for the Lower Austrians: As bottom of the table, they had to relegate back to the regional league after just one season. However, they stayed there, although the Japanese investors only reduced their involvement for one season; on the 32nd matchday they could fix the promotion despite a defeat against the Wiener Sport-Club .
In the 2018/19 season, SV Horn reached 15th place in the new 2nd league and, although it would not have been sporty enough, managed due to other events (descent of Wacker Innsbruck from the Bundesliga => descent of Wacker Innsbruck II from the 2nd league, withdrawal of the admission of SC Wr.Neustadt, no promoted from the Regionalliga Ost) relegation.
