The Marchfeld Donauauen football club (formerly SC Mannsdorf ) is a football club in the Lower Austrian municipality of Mannsdorf an der Donau in the Gänserndorf district . The club belongs to the Lower Austrian Football Association (NÖFV) and has been playing in the third highest performance level, the Regionalliga Ost , since the 2016/17 season .
history
FC Marchfeld Donauauen was first founded in 1947 as SC Mannsdorf. Instead of a planned housing estate, a soccer field was built. The team took part in the Marchfeld 2nd class championship as early as 1947/48, but did not get beyond last place. At least two victories could be achieved. In the following year it was enough for the penultimate place. In the 1949/50 season, the team could look forward to 6 wins in 18 games. Due to a lack of players, the game had to be stopped in the summer of 1950. Finally, the association was dissolved in 1952.
It would take 30 years before the "SC Mannsdorf an der Donau" was re-established. At the head of the association were Herbert Mayer as president and Gerhard Windisch as chairman. However, it took another three years to start playing. Therefore, the year 1985 can be found in the club logo. A wooden house that was brought from Grinzing to Mannsdorf served as a temporary changing room . It was not until 1988 that changing rooms and ancillary rooms could be built.
The start was somewhat promising, because in the 1985/86 season 8th place out of 16 clubs in 2nd class Marchfeld was achieved. The following year there was a major setback with the penultimate place. In the following years, too, SC Mannsdorf had to make do with placements in the lower half of the table.
It was only when chairman Herbert Decker and section head Franz Irza took over the training in 1995 that things started to improve. The 1995/96 season ended with second place. Also in the 1996/97 season, the club was able to give a strong sign of life with second place. With the death of chairman Decker in 1999, SC Mannsdorf fell into a crisis and it was thanks to Franz Irza as section leader, Gerhard Windisch and the main sponsor Christian Gnadenberger that the club was able to cope with this. Werner Georg took over the club as the new chairman.
Continuous advancement since 2003
In 2003, the Mannsdorfer began their continuous ascent, which led them to the third highest performance level. In 2002/03 the club was able to celebrate a championship title in 2nd class Marchfeld for the first time. The SC Obersiebenbrunn was about 4, the SV Stripfing distances already by 15 counter. In the following year, Mannsdorf was just able to stay in 1st class north. In 2006 Gerald Nissl took over the association as chairman. Under his leadership, the next championship title in 1st class North followed in 2007/08. Player- coach was the former Bundesliga professional Ernst Mader , who led the team through the goal with an eight point lead over USV Gaweinstal . SC Mannsdorf was able to establish itself straight away in the regional league north / north-west with fourth place.
In 2009 Manfred Vettermann took over the chairmanship. With him came further momentum in the club, which culminated in 2009/10 with winning the championship title in the regional league North / Northwest. The team of coach Gerald Schalkhammer scored 112 goals in 26 games and distanced TSU Obergänserndorf with a record advantage of 19 points. With guest appearances by SK Rapid Wien and LASK Linz in front of 1,800 spectators each, the promotion to the 2nd Lower Austrian Regional League East was celebrated accordingly.
The Mannsdorfer also did well in the 2nd regional league east and immediately came third. In the 2011/12 season, the team, led by coach Goran Djuricin, won the championship title eleven points ahead of SC Lassee and was promoted to the Lower Austrian regional league .
Lower Austria state championship title and promotion to the Regionalliga Ost
In the state league, Mannsdorf immediately gained respect and in the 2012/13 season, under coach Roman Mählich, achieved a remarkable second place as promoted team. The gap to the master ATSV Ober-Grafendorf was only seven points. With second place, SC Mannsdorf was also eligible to participate in the 2013/14 ÖFB Cup . In the first round, the Mannsdorfer received FC Gratkorn from the Regionalliga Mitte and prevailed 1-0 with a goal from Andreas Bauer in extra time. In the second round, SV Horn from the first division was a guest. After a 4-4 draw in regular time, Mannsdorf only had to admit defeat 4-6 in extra time.
Things didn't go quite as well in the following two game years in the Lower Austrian regional league, each of which ended with eighth place. A new attempt was made in the 2015/16 season. The team was made up from scratch with 16 players. Coach Christian Prehsel, who previously acted as assistant coach, succeeded in forming a strong team that secured the Lower Austrian championship title with nine points ahead of SV Leobendorf .
The championship team was composed as follows:
- Goalkeepers: Philipp Niebauer (28 games / 0 goals), Christoph Kniezanrek (1/0);
- Defenders: Erik Chval (4/0), Andreas Gradinger (13/1), David Schnakl (14/0), Lukas Wiesauer (16/1), Adnan Mravac (11/1), Vait Ismaili (6/0), Marco Salvatore (27/4), Niklas Hofer (8/0);
- Midfielder: Marcel Vittner (24/7), Anton Berisha (22/3), Paul Weissensteiner (28/3), Gabriel Beck (27/4), Andreas Bauer (26/2), Marco Csitkovits (10/0), Stefan Ederndorfer (11/0), Fatlum Kreka (13/1), Pascal Steigberger (9/1);
- Attackers: Vasil Kuleski (1/0), Tomislav Haramustek (2/1), Nacho Casanova (29/21), Nenad Panić (28/17), Michael Wojtanowicz (21/3), Nizar Ben Nasra (5/0) , Róbert Fekete (10/2).
From the 2016/17 season onwards, SC Mannsdorf will play in the third highest performance level, the Regionalliga Ost . The team was reinforced for the regional league. Nacho Casanova was joined by three other players, Mark Prettenthaler , Christoph Saurer and Julian Salamon , who were already active in the Bundesliga. However, all three players were given up again after only six months.
Cup win against Wacker Innsbruck and first season in the regional league
With the Lower Austrian state championship title, SC Mannsdorf was also qualified for the ÖFB-Cup 2016/17 and received the title contender of the First League , FC Wacker Innsbruck , for the first round . In front of 950 spectators, the team stood up to the Innsbruckers. After a 2-2 draw in regular time, extra time went on, which ended 3: 3. A penalty shoot-out had to decide the promotion, which the Mannsdorf team won 4: 3. The rest of the season was less successful at the beginning. It was only with a win against FCM Traiskirchen on the fifth match day that they were initially able to move away from the relegation ranks. After the seventh match day, however, coach Christian Prehsel was dismissed in mid-September 2016 and Herbert Gager was committed. In the second round of the cup they had to admit defeat to defending champions FC Red Bull Salzburg with a 7-1 defeat . After that, things went continuously uphill for the Mannsdorfer. The first half of the season ended the Lower Austrians in seventh place in the Regionalliga Ost; in the second half of the season you could even improve and finish the season in fifth.
renaming
In June 2017 the club was renamed FC Marchfeld Mannsdorf . From the 2018/19 season the club will cooperate with the SC EFM Groß-Enzersdorf from the regional league North / Northwest (6th level). Both clubs will compete in their respective leagues under the new name FC Marchfeld Donauauen .
