Roman Mählich (born September 17, 1971 in Wiener Neustadt ) is a former Austrian football player and current coach . In addition, Roman Mählich was a football analyst on TV.
Career as a player
society
Gradually his career began at Citizen Kagran and in 1989 he switched to the Vienna sports club . In 1994 he went to FC Tirol Innsbruck . His most successful time was from 1995 to 2003 with SK Sturm Graz , with whom he played three seasons in the UEFA Champions League .
The 172 cm tall midfielder moved to SC Untersiebenbrunn at the beginning of the 2003/04 season to end his career in the second division. From 2004 to 2007 he played for the Austria Amateurs . From there he moved to ASK Schwadorf . In autumn 2008 he moved to the Lower Austrian regional league club SCU Kilb. From this he came to the same-class club SC Lassee in spring 2009, with whom he secured the championship title and the associated promotion to the 2nd regional league a few rounds before the end. Then Mählich ended his active football career.
National team
Mählich took part in the 1998 World Cup in France, where he was used in three games. In total, he completed 20 international matches for the Austrian national soccer team . He made his debut in Linz in 1992 against Portugal , his last international match in May 2002 when he lost 6-2 in a friendly against Germany at the BayArena in Leverkusen .
Career as a coach
From August 2009 Mählich trained the first team of SC-ESV Parndorf 1919 in the Austrian Regionalliga Ost . The club separated from him again at the end of November. The reason given was the unfulfilled expectations of the club's management. From December 2009 to June 2012 he worked as a trainer at SC Lassee. After having previously coached SC Mannsdorf and SV St. Margarethen , from March 2015 until the end of the season he coached the amateurs of Vienna Austria. From 2016 he acted as co-trainer for this.
In June 2017 Mählich became coach of the second division club SC Wiener Neustadt . With Wiener Neustadt he reached third place in the 2017/18 season and thus achieved the relegation to promotion. There, however, one could not prevail against the SKN St. Pölten . After the missed promotion, Mählich left the club and his assistant coach Gerhard Fellner became head coach.
In November 2018 he became the coach of Bundesliga club SK Sturm Graz , for which he had already played as a player. In June 2019 they separated from Mählich. The Graz team ended the 2018/19 season in fifth place.
In September 2019 he became the coach of the second division club SC Austria Lustenau . In June 2020 he left Lustenau.

Since 2010, Mählich (with Herbert Prohaska and Helge Payer ) has been analyzing games from the World Cup , European Football Championship and the UEFA Champions League for ORF .
