Keisuke Honda ( Japanese 本田 圭 佑 , Honda Keisuke ; born June 13, 1986 in Settsu , Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese former football player and coach . The attacking midfielder also played for the Japanese national team . He is currently under contract with Botafogo FR . In addition, he volunteers as assistant trainer and manager of the Cambodian national team.

Honda learned to play football as a child at Settsu FC . His talent was discovered there and he switched to the Gamba Osaka junior academy . There he did not make the breakthrough and in 2001 moved to the team of Seiryo high school. Within two years his performance increased and he led his team as a key player into the semifinals of the national school championship. His appearances did not go unnoticed by J. League teams and so he moved to Nagoya Grampus in 2005 . There he developed into a regular player and top performer.
On January 16, 2008, the midfielder signed a one and a half year contract with the Dutch first division club VVV-Venlo . Honda became a regular straight away. The club rose after the season in the Eerste Divisie . Thanks to Honda and a good team performance, he was immediately promoted back to the Eredivisie . At the beginning of the 2009/10 season, the offensive player impressed with good games and goals. The Japanese had already developed into a crowd favorite the year before and was nicknamed Keizer Keisuke ( カ イ ザ ー ・ ケ イ ス ケ , Kaizā Keisuke ). He was also voted the best player in the Eerste Divisie in 2008/09 . In the first eight compulsory games after promotion, he scored seven goals.
On January 1, 2010, Honda moved to the Russian club CSKA Moscow for six million euros . Honda set up the first goal and scored the second in CSKA Moscow's 2-1 away win in the second leg of the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League second leg against Sevilla FC . Honda suffered a knee injury on August 28 in the city derby against Spartak Moscow and failed for three months. Honda made its comeback on November 18, 2010 in the 1: 2 home defeat to Rubin Kazan .
Honda moved to AC Milan on January 3, 2014 on a free transfer .
In June 2017 he signed with CF Pachuca.
In August 2018 he moved to the Australian A-League for Melbourne Victory . After the end of the 2018/19 season , Honda moved to Vitesse Arnheim in the Netherlands in 2019 . At the beginning of 2020, his renewed change was announced. He went to Brazil , where he signed a contract for the 2020 season with Botafogo FR from Rio de Janeiro .
National team
With the Japanese U-20 selection , Honda took part in the 2005 Junior World Cup in the Netherlands. He was also nominated for the U-23, which ran up at the 2008 Summer Olympics .
Honda has played in the Japanese national soccer team since 2008. He was named to the Japanese squad for the 2010 World Cup . In the group stage he scored two goals and qualified with the team for the round of 16, which they lost on penalties against the Paraguayan national soccer team .
In 2011, Honda took part with the Japanese selection in the Asian Championship in Qatar , which was won with a 1-0 final victory over Australia . Honda started in five games, in the game against Saudi Arabia he was on the substitution bench. He was voted the best player of the tournament.
In 2018 he made the jump into the Japanese squad for the World Cup . In the second group game against Senegal, he scored 2-2.
Coaching career
Since August 2018, Honda has been an active professional and volunteer as a trainer and manager of the Cambodia national team.
