Diego Cavalieri (born December 1, 1982 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian soccer goalkeeper who is currently under contract with Botafogo FR . He has both Brazilian and Italian citizenship.

Career

Cavalieri began his professional career in 2002 with the Brazilian football club Palmeiras . He made his debut in a 4-0 away win against Rio Claro FC at the São Paulo state championship . Cavalieri also played for Palmeiras in the Compeonato Brasileiro , the Brazilian national championship. Here he had to accept a total of 47 goals in 33 games.

On July 11th, 2008 he signed a four-year contract with the English Premier League club Liverpool FC . His first appearance for his new club was in the League Cup against Crewe Alexandra . After Cavalieri could not prevail against the regular goalkeeper Pepe Reina and Liverpool signed a new substitute goalkeeper with Brad Jones , he moved to the Italian club AC Cesena in August 2010 . But here, too, he only played in the Coppa Italia and therefore moved back home to Fluminense in 2011 .

In Rio de Janeiro he was set as a regular goalkeeper after the departures of Fernando Henrique and Rafael Silva . He confirmed this position in the following seasons and was thus significantly involved in winning the title in the league and in the state championship. In addition, he was even called up to the Brazilian national team.
