Bradley "Brad" Scott Jones (born March 19, 1982 in Armadale ) is an Australian football player .

Club career

Jones came in 2000 from the Australian club Bayswater City SC to FC Middlesbrough . He made his competitive debut for the professional team in 2004 in the third round of the FA Cup against Notts County. A few days later he also played for the first time in the Premier League in a 2-1 win against Fulham . He had already been loaned out three times before, but only partially played at Stockport County , Rotherham United and Blackpool FC .

In the next season Jones came five times in the league for the actual number one, his compatriot Mark Schwarzer , used. In May 2006, Jones saved a penalty from Ruud van Nistelrooy in the away game against Manchester United, ensuring his team the 0-0. It was one of his nine Premier League games that year. In the successful 2005/06 UEFA Cup season , Jones was used in four games, including in the semi-final second leg against Steaua Bucharest when his team were already 2-0 behind after a 1-0 defeat in the first leg in the second leg, but won the game 4-2 at the end. In the final, however, the actual goalkeeper Middlesbroughs, Schwarzer, was in goal. In the FA Cup semi-finals (0-1 against West Ham United ), Jones was substituted on for Schwarzer just before the break.

In August 2006, Jones was awarded a three-month loan to Sheffield Wednesday . After a few good saves, he also made some game-changing mistakes. The displeasure of some viewers culminated on October 21, 2006 in a 3-2 victory over the Queens Park Rangers in the fact that he was pelted with coins from their own fan block. In the second half of the season Jones played twice in the Premier League and in the FA Cup for Middlesbrough. In the entire following season, the Australian was only used twice - in the League Cup and in the league. From October to March he was also out because of a broken finger.

After the departure of Schwarzer to Fulham FC , Jones was the goalkeeper for the 2008/09 season, but injured himself in the early stages of the season and was thereby. After relegation to the Football League Championship in 2009 , the left-footed player has since competed with Danny Coyne for the regular place in goal.

In August 2010, the Australian moved to England's record champions Liverpool for a transfer fee of 2.3 million pounds, where he has a contract until June 2014. Before his first Premier League appearance for Liverpool Jones had to wait until April 12, 2012, when he replaced Doni in goal after half an hour in the game against Blackburn Rovers (final score 3: 2) and immediately then parried the penalty caused by this. A few days later he was also in the starting line-up in the 2-1 victory in the semi-finals of the FA Cup against local rivals Everton at London's Wembley Stadium .

Jones, Australia already at the 2004 Olympics as a substitute goalkeeper behind Eugene Galekovic represented, was first in May and June 2004 for the taking place there World Cup qualifiers in the Australian senior team called, but did not play. He made his international debut four months later in a friendly against Uruguay, where he made a mistake in the 2-1 defeat when he let a cross slip through his hands, which was used by Álvaro Recoba to the final score. At the first Asian Cup participation in Australia in 2007 Jones was in the squad of the Socceroos , but was not used.

National coach Pim Verbeek called Jones into the Australian squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Shortly before the start of the tournament, he left the training camp after his four-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer and canceled his tournament participation a short time later. Jones was also in the squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but was not used.
