Doni , real name Doniéber Alexander Marangon (born October 22, 1979 in Jundiaí ), is a former Brazilian goalkeeper who also has Italian citizenship.
Career
society
Doni was born in Jundiaí , São Paulo state . He started his professional career in Botafogo FR in 2000 , where he did not play a single game. The following year he moved to Corinthians São Paulo , where he played for three years. There he came to his first professional assignments. In 2002, the double was won by winning the Torneio Rio-São Paulo and the Copa do Brasil . The following year the team won the São Paulo state championship . In 2004 the goalkeeper signed for FC Santos , a short time later for Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte , before he soon moved to EC Juventude .
In 2005 Doni moved to other European countries, to AS Roma , where he was temporarily on the bench. Gianluca Curci was number one at the time, but the Brazilian was soon to oust him. Doni made his UEFA Cup debut on September 29 against Aris Saloniki , which ended in a draw. Thanks to his good form against the Greeks and in the game against Tromsø IL , coach Luciano Spalletti decided to use him in the derby against Lazio on October 23, 2005. In his second season with the Romans, he was one of the best goalkeepers in the league and was the undisputed core force between the Wolves' posts . With the team, Doni won the Coppa Italia in 2007 and 2008 . After the first success, the team also secured the Supercoppa Italiana . In 2008 he extended his contract until 2012. Soon after, after some weaknesses and a botched game against Inter Milan , Doni lost his place to Artur Moraes . But it soon found its shape again and won the trust of the Romans. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season , the club relied again on Moraes and Doni's compatriot Júlio Sérgio Bertagnoli , who had been with the club since 2006, as Doni had been injured since April 2009. In October, however, he returned and found himself in competition with Bertagnoli. So he only made seven league appearances that season.
On July 15, 2011, the English first division club Liverpool announced the commitment of Donis.
On January 31, 2013 Doni moved back to his home country to Botafogo SP .
National team
Doni made his debut for Brazil on June 5, 2007 in a friendly against Turkey . Since then he has been playing in the dress of his home country on an irregular basis. In 2007 he was appointed to the Copa America squad by national coach Carlos Dunga . There he was preferred to Heurelho Gomes and the non-nominated Júlio César in the Brazilians goal. In total, Doni made six appearances during the competition and was finally able to celebrate winning the tournament. In May 2010, despite his lack of match practice in Rome, he was nominated for the Brazilian squad for the World Cup in South Africa . However, he moved in the hierarchy behind César and Gomes and was not used as number three. The team was eliminated from the tournament in the quarterfinals against the team from the Netherlands .
