mode

The mode consisted of a knockout system . In the first two rounds, the rule was that if a team wins an away first leg by at least two goals, there is no second leg.

After the first and second leg, only the number of wins counted. If this did not result in a winner, the goal difference counted. In the event of a tie, the away goals rule was applied. If no winner was determined after these were used, this was determined in a penalty shoot-out.

Tournament schedule

The rule from the first round that if a team wins an away first leg by at least two goals, there is no second leg, only applied to the sixteenth finals.

The player João Carlos from CR Vasco da Gama had in the Round of leg against Santa Cruz FC received his third yellow card in the competition. Nevertheless, he was used by Vasco in the next game, the first knockout round first leg against CS Alagoano . Only after Alagoano lost the second leg against Vasco did Alagoano protest against the rating of the first leg. They applied for Vasco to be excluded. The Sports Court decided against a disqualification and only imposed a fine of 2,000 real on Vasco.
