The vice-national champion of Pará and the vice-national champion of Rio de Janeiro were no longer invited . Therefor again at the Vice State Championship of Pernambuco . Invited for the first time is the winner of the Rio de Janeiro State Cup .
The four specially invited teams were the EC Democrata , Flamengo Rio de Janeiro , Grêmio Porto Alegre and the Copa Bandeirantes winner Corinthians São Paulo .
mode
The mode consisted of a knockout system . For the first time, a new rule was introduced that said that if a team wins an away first leg by at least three goals, there will be no second leg. This rule was applied for the first time in the round of 32 between Náutico Capibaribe and São Paulo FC . The game ended 1: 4 for São Paulo, who thus moved into the round of 16 without a second leg.
After the first and second leg, only the number of wins counted. If this did not result in a winner, the goal difference counted.
