National championship of Piauí
The state championship of Piauí is the football championship of the state of Piauí (Portuguese: Campeonato Piauiense de Futebol ) in Brazil . It has been held annually since 1916 - with the exception of 1917.
Between the years 1916 and 1940, football in Piauí was played at amateur level, in league organizations that were temporarily competing with one another, which is why two championships were occasionally played during this time. The professionalization of football went hand in hand in 1941 with the establishment of the new umbrella organization, the Federação de Futebol de Piauí (FFP).
Record champion is Ríver Atlético Clube from the state capital Teresina with 30 titles, followed by local rivals Esporte Clube Flamengo with 17 titles.
