State Championship of Ceará

The state championship of Ceará is the football championship of the state of Ceará (Portuguese: Campeonato Cearense de Futebol ) in Brazil . It has been held continuously since 1915.

The championship was operated from 1915 on at the amateur level by the Liga Metropolitana Cearense de Futebol , which was replaced in 1920 by the Associação dos Desportos do Ceará (ADC). With the establishment of the national association of the Federação Cearense de Futebol (FCF) in 1941, the professionalization of football has found its way into Ceará.

The clubs from the state capital Fortaleza are traditionally dominant , of which the Ceará Sporting Club holds the championship record with 45 titles, followed by the rival Fortaleza Esporte Clube with 40 titles.

  1. The 1992 championship was played in three phases. Originally, the three winners (Ceará SC, Fortaleza EC, AE Tiradentes) were supposed to decide the championship together with the best of the overall classification (Icasa EC) in a knockout round. After this could not be held due to delayed disputes between the clubs, the FCF decided at the green table on a title division between the four clubs.
