Johannes Goerres (born May 5, 1849 in Stommeln , † February 18, 1905 in Essen ) was a German local politician in the city of Essen.

Life

Born in Stommeln, now part of Pulheim near Cologne , Johannes Goerres was a district office assistant at the Essen District Office from 1874 to 1876 after the city of Essen had left the Essen district in 1873 and became an independent city. From 1876 to 1890 he then held the office of community secretary in the mayor's office of Altendorf to the west of what was then Essen .

On May 7, 1890, he was appointed salaried mayor of the mayor's office. After the previous and only mayor of Altendorf's mayor, Wilhelm Kerckhoff , died on June 17, 1900, Goerres took over this office temporarily for a year until it was incorporated into the city of Essen on August 1, 1901.

Subsequently, Johannes Goerres was welcomed in October 1901 by the Lord Mayor Erich Zweigert as an alderman for the city of Essen.

Johannes Goerres died during a meeting of the council of councilors after he had finished a lecture.
