The Copa Conmebol 1996 was the 5th draw of the South American club soccer competition , which was comparable to the European UEFA Cup . As usual, 16 teams took part. The Argentine representative CA Lanús won the final against Independiente Santa Fe .

The top scorer was the Argentinean Óscar Mena from CA Lanús with five goals.
