The Copa do Brasil 2000 was the twelfth edition of this national soccer cup competition in Brazil. The Copa was hosted by the Brazilian Sports Federation, the CBF . The cup winner was qualified as a participant in the 2001 Copa Libertadores .

Season course

The competition started its season on March 9, 2000 and ended on July 9, 2000. At the end of the season, the Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte won the title for the third time. The top scorer was Oseas from the cup winner with 10 goals.

Attendees

Participants were the winners of the 1999 state championships and some of them were vice-champions. Furthermore, a selection of teams determined by the association was added. Compared to the previous season, the field of participants has increased from 64 to 69.

The participants in the Copa Libertadores (Atlético Mineiro, Athletico Paranaense, Corinthians, Juventude and Palmeiras) did not enter the competition until after the third round.

The mode consisted of a knockout system . In the first two rounds, the rule was that if a team wins an away first leg by at least two goals, there is no second leg.

After the first and second leg, only the number of wins counted. If this did not result in a winner, the goal difference counted. In the event of a tie, the away goals rule was applied. If no winner was determined after these were used, this was determined in a penalty shoot-out.
