Müller , real name Luís Antônio Corrêa da Costa (born January 31, 1966 in Campo Grande ), is a former Brazilian soccer player . He chose his stage name "Müller" based on the German soccer player Gerd Müller .
Career
society
Müller played in Brazil for São Paulo FC , with whom he won the regional state championship in 1985 and 1987 . Much more significant, however, was winning the Brazilian championship in 1986 . In 1988 Müller decided to move abroad and signed with the Italian Serie A club Torino Calcio . There he became a regular player straight away, but could not prevent relegation to Serie B. Nevertheless, the attacker remained loyal to the club and shot him back into the top football league in the country with his goals in the 1989/90 season.
After promotion, he left Turin and joined his former club, São Paulo FC, where he was able to win the national championship again in 1991 . In 1992 and 1993 he also advanced twice in a row with his team to the final of the Copa Libertadores . There Müller was able to defeat the CA Newell's Old Boys from Argentina in 1992, alongside players like Raí and Cafu , and the following year the CD Universidad Católica from Chile, where he scored a goal in a 5-1 first leg success in 1993. Through these successes, São Paulo FC was entitled to play in the tournament for the World Cup . Under the leadership of coach Telê Santana , the Tricolor won in both years. After the successful years in his home country, Müller moved back into the distance in 1994 and wore the jersey of the Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol for one year . From 1995 to the end of his career in 2004, Müller played for various clubs in Brazil and was more or less successful with them. In January 1997 he moved to Italy again for a short interlude, at AC Perugia , but soon returned in the summer of the same year.
National team
Müller was a Brazilian international and played a total of 56 times for the Seleção , scoring 12 goals. He took part in the World Championships in 1986 (five missions), 1990 (four missions) and 1994 (one mission) and scored two goals. At the 1994 tournament he was world champion with Brazil, but was not used in the final.
He played his first international match against Germany: on March 12, 1986 he lost to Brazil 0-2 in Frankfurt am Main .
