However, this was only enough for the runner-up championship behind FC Porto . His strong performances aroused the desire of other European top teams and so after only one year he turned his back on Benfica and signed with the Italian club AS Roma .

For the Roma , Aldair should have been on the football field for thirteen years and play over 400 Serie A games. In his first year in Italy, the defensive player was able to win the Coppa Italia with his new club . After the first leg against Sampdoria Genoa was won 3: 1, the team earned a 1: 1 in the return encounter and was thus able to win the title. Rudi Völler put the Romans in the lead before Aldair equalized with an own goal for Sampdoria. The game for the Supercoppa Italiana , an encounter between the champions and cup winners, lost the ASR 0: 1 against Sampdoria, who returned the favor. In 1993 the team was again in the final of the Coppa Italia. The team lost 3-0 and 5-2 against FC Turin . After Aldair was still in the starting line-up in the first leg, he could only watch the second leg.

In 1998 he took over the club's captaincy from Abel Balbo , which he later passed on to Francesco Totti . The most important title with Roma but won the defender in 2001 when the club for the third time in club history and for the first time since 1983, the championship won. The following year it was enough for the runner-up championship behind Juventus Turin . Before the start of this season, the team secured the Supercoppa for the first time with a 3-0 win against Fiorentina . However, Aldair did not play along. 2002/03 moved Aldair with the team for the third time in the finals of the national cup competition. The team had no chance against AC Milan . In the summer of 2003, he announced that he would leave the club and switch to Serie B at CFC Genoa . In his honor, the Roma board decided not to give away the shirt with the number 6 . With over 415 league games for AS Roma, Aldair is among the top five players with the most games in the capital's club and is by far the list of foreign players with the most games, ahead of the French Vincent Candela (253 games). After only a few missions and a season he ended his professional career at Genoa.
