Mauro Silva , full name Mauro da Silva Gomes , (born January 12, 1968 in São Bernardo do Campo , State of São Paulo , Brazil ) is a former Brazilian football player .

The defensive midfielder played for CA Bragantino from 1990 to 1992 , where he developed into one of the strongest footballers in the Brazilian league . In 1991 Mauro Silva was awarded the Bola de Ouro .

From 1992 to 2005 he played for the Spanish first division club Deportivo La Coruña . With his matter-of-fact, calm style of play, Mauro Silva was a support of the team that became champions in 2000 . At times he even held captaincy. Deportivo developed into a real top team and were regulars in the UEFA Champions League for several years .

Mauro Silva completed a total of 59 international matches for the Seleção . At the 1994 World Cup in the USA he was part of the regular formation and, together with Carlos Dunga, formed the central midfield of the eventual title holder.
