Abel Eduardo Balbo (born June 1, 1966 in Empalme Villa Constitución , Santa Fe Province , Argentina ) is a retired Argentine football player .

Career

society

Balbo began his professional career in 1987 like numerous Argentinian class strikers with the Newell's Old Boys in Rosario . Just one year later, he moved to River Plate in the capital, Buenos Aires , and made the leap to Europe a year later. He started at Udinese Calcio in 1989 and stayed in the Italian Serie A until 2002 at clubs such as AS Roma , AC Parma and AC Florence . In these years he scored a total of 138 goals. After the 2002/2003 season, he ended his career with the Boca Juniors .

National team

In the Argentine national football team , he was still in the shadow of strikers like Gabriel Batistuta , but made a total of 37 international matches in which he scored 11 goals. He was also a member of the Argentine squad at the 1990 World Cup in Italy , the 1994 World Cup in the USA and the 1998 World Cup in France .
