The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A 2013 was the 57th season of the Brazilian Série A .
Seasonal course and special events
The Série A started its new season on May 25, 2013. During the rest of June and the beginning of July of the year the league was inactive because the Confederations Cup was being held at the same time .
Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte secured his third Brazilian championship four game days before the end of the season . After a 3-1 win at EC Vitória and a defeat by Paranaense, coach Marcelo Oliveira's team increased their lead over the runner-up to 16 points.
On the last day of the match there were serious riots with several seriously injured in the game between Athletico Paranaense and Vasco da Gama. The game was interrupted for over an hour and then continued. The stadium security and the behavior of the police, which did not intervene for a long time, were subsequently heavily criticized. Paranaense won 5-1 and qualified for the Copa Libertadores, while Vasco da Gama had to move into the second division.
One of the relegated athletes was initially the traditional club Fluminense, champions of 2012. As the Brazilian Sports Court STJD decided in a ruling, the Portuguesa club from São Paulo made itself a criminal offense after the player Héverton had accrued despite a suspension. The club appealed the judgment, but it was rejected. The decision had a deduction of four points, so the club was relegated to the second division instead of Fluminenses.
After the season, as every year, awards were given to the best players of the year. When Prêmio Craque do Brasileirão was Everton Ribeiro awarded the Master Cruzeiro as the best player of the season. Flamengo announced Hernane as the fan favorite . The " Golden Ball ", awarded by the sports magazine Placar , also won Éverton Ribeiro. Athletico Paranaense's Éderson was the top scorer with 21 goals.
