Leonardo Renan Simões de Lacerda , called Léo , (born January 30, 1988 in Belo Horizonte , Minas Gerais ) is a Brazilian football player .

Career

General

Léo started his career in 2007 with his youth club Gremio and currently plays for the first division club Cruzeiro EC in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

On April 28, 2009, Léo extended his contract with Grêmio until 2012. But on December 18 of the same year he was sold to Palmeiras in exchange for buying another defender, Maurício dos Santos Nascimento . The transfer fee for Léo was 6.5 million real , that for Maurício eight million real. He made his debut at Palmeiras on January 16, 2010 in a 5-1 win over Mogi Mirim in the São Paulo state championship . Léo scored the second goal for his team.

In mid-2010 he was hired by Cruzeiro in exchange for defender Leandro Amaro and a transfer of 1 million real. Leó played his first competitive game for Cruzeiro in Série A on matchday 18 of the 2010 season . On September 2, 2010 he made his debut in the home game against his ex-club Palmeiras. in the game Leó was substituted on for Caçapa after half- time. In the same season Leó also scored his first competitive goal for the club. In the away game against Grêmio Barueri on October 30, 2010, the 32nd matchday, he scored the 0: 1 opening goal in the 18th minute (0: 2). In July 2018, Léo was honored for over 300 games for Cruzeiro. Cruzeiro's vice-president announced in November 2018 that an offer to buy Leó by a Mexican club for 12 million reals had been rejected. Instead, the player has extended his contract, which runs until the end of 2020, to the end of 2022.

National team

After good performance in the club and in the U-23 national team, the player was appointed by national coach Carlos Dunga for Brazil squad for the game against Sweden on March 26, 2008 in the team, but was not used.
