The Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa 1970 was the fourth season of the tournament and the 14th Brazilian soccer championship after the recognition of this competition and the Taça Brasil by the CBF in 2010.

All 22 players on the 1970 World Cup team took part in the tournament.

Season course

The competition started its new season on September 20, 1970 and ended on December 20, 1970. The championship was organized by the national association CBD . At the end of the season, the Fluminense Rio de Janeiro celebrated its first title.

The Golden Ball award given by the sports magazine Placar to the best player of the year was not awarded in 1970. The player Francisco Reyes of Flamengo had in the year with the most points in the ranking of the magazine. The top scorer was Tostão from Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte with 15 goals .

In the first round, the 17 participants were divided into two groups. All participants in both groups played against each other once (16 games per team). The best four teams in each group advanced to the final round.

Final round:

In the final round, the teams only met once. The best team from all six games became champions.
