The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A 2006 was the 50th season of the Brazilian Série A .
Season course
The Série A started its new season on April 15, 2006 and ended on December 3, 2006. The number of participants was reduced from 22 to 20 in the previous season. Because of this, there were only two promoters.
After the season, as every year, awards were given to the best players of the year. At the Prêmio Craque do Brasileirão , Rogério Ceni was named the best player of the season by São Paulo FC. Renato Abreu from CR Flamengo became the fan favorite . The " Golden Ball ", awarded by the sports magazine Placar , went to Lucas Leiva from Grêmio . The top scorer with 20 goals was Souza from Paraná Clube .
