The Taça de Ouro 1980 was the 24th season of the Brazilian soccer championship .

Season course

The competition started its new season on February 23, 1980 and ended on July 1, 1980. The championship was organized by the national association CBF . At the end of the season, the Flamengo Rio de Janeiro celebrated its first title.

After the season, as every year, awards were given to the best players of the year. The “ Golden Ball ”, awarded by the sports magazine Placar , went to Toninho Cerezo from Atlético Mineiro . The top scorer was Zico with 21 goals .

The 40 best teams of the state championships were initially determined as participants. The round was completed with the best four teams in the Taça de Prata (second division) in 1980 , but they did not take part until the second round of the competition.
