América Futebol Clube (SP) , also known as América , América-SP or América (SP) , is a Brazilian soccer team from São José do Rio Preto . Crests, jerseys and club colors were copied from America FC (RJ) from Rio de Janeiro .

history

The América Futebol Clube (SP) was founded on January 28, 1946 in São José do Rio Preto. The club is a copy of America FC from Rio de Janeiro . In 1957 the club won the Campeonato Paulista Segunda Divisão for the first time. As a result, America was qualified for the state championship in São Paulo .

In 1978 they rose for the first time to the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol (Série A), the top division of Brazil. However, at the end of the season they were relegated as 38th. The direct resurgence succeeded, so that in 1980 they started again in the Série A. This time, América finished the season in 32nd place. In 2006, América won the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior. Seven years earlier they were still defeated.

América FC (SP) has a red devil named Diabo as its mascot.

Home games are played at the Estádio Benedito Teixeira. Opened in 1996, the stadium can seat 36,426 spectators.
