Romualdo Arppi Filho (born January 7, 1939 in Santos ) is a former Brazilian football referee . As a child, Romualdo Arppi Filho enjoyed playing sports, preferably football, but also basketball and volleyball. From the age of 14, he concentrated entirely on refereeing and finally took a course at the São Paulo State Football Association when he was 18 .

Two years later, in 1959, he made his debut in an official game and only a year later he was already leading games at national level. In 1961 his first international assignment followed at a summer tournament in the Uruguayan capital Montevideo , where he whistled other games with Boca Juniors and the local Club Nacional - and made an excellent impression. In 1962 he led the decisive game of the then all-important Torneio Rio-São Paulo , which Botafogo FR from Rio de Janeiro won 3-1 against SE Palmeiras . In 1963, the Brazilian association officially reported the 24-year-old as a FIFA referee.

In 1968, Ganso , the goose, as Arppo Filho is also called by his friends, was used at the Olympic Games in Mexico.
