Aron Schmidhuber

Aron Schmidhuber (born February 28, 1947 in Ottobrunn ) is a former German football referee .

Career

Schmidhuber headed a total of 143 Bundesliga soccer matches and, as a FIFA referee, 26 international A matches. At the 1990 World Cup in Italy he was used in two games (England - Ireland 1: 1, Spain - Yugoslavia 1: 2 nV), at the European Championship in Sweden in 1992 , he led the match between Denmark and Sweden. Schmidhuber was not allowed to lead any further games at these tournaments, as the German national team came into the final and there was no German referee in the knockout round . In addition, Schmidhuber acted as linesman in one game each at the 1990 World Cup and 1988 European Championship .

He headed over a hundred international matches, including the 1991/92 European Cup final between FC Barcelona and Sampdoria Genoa at Wembley Stadium in London, the 1990 UEFA Cup final between Juventus Turin and Florence and the UEFA Super Cup final FC Porto versus Ajax Amsterdam 1987.

In 1987, 1991 and 1992 he was named “Referee of the Year” in the German Bundesliga. 1992 Schmidhuber was by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics for World Referee chosen.

After an active period, Schmidhuber worked for UEFA as a referee observer in the Champions League and Europa League until 2016 .
