Tschammer Cup 1941
The Tschammerpokal 1941 was the seventh edition of the competition. The competition was again played out in four phases. In the preliminary round, the lower class teams played for a place in the intermediate round, in which the district league teams also intervened in the action. The competition was then continued in six district groups, in which the meanwhile 20 football districts were regionally combined. The Gaue Danzig-West Prussia and Alsace were newly added through further areas annexed during the Second World War . The 64 participants for the final round were determined in four main rounds.
A total of ten district league teams reached the first final round, with Königsberger STV and LSV Kamp-Köslin two teams also managed to survive the first final round. While Königsberg failed in the second final round, LSV Kamp made it to the quarter-finals where they were defeated by the eventual cup winner Dresdner SC . The Stuttgart Kickers achieved the record victory in the final round with a 17-0 win over VfB 05 Knielingen , Borussia Fulda showed a remarkable catch-up against Kickers Offenbach when they were able to turn a 0-5 deficit into a 9: 6 - the highest deficit that a team could ever catch up in the German cup competition.
With the war against the Soviet Union , which began in mid-1941 , the clubs no longer had many regular players, which led to some cup surprises. Overall, the number of participants declined slightly again, which was mainly due to the fact that smaller clubs could not compensate for their members being called up to join the Wehrmacht and had to cancel their games. The entire cup was played in a knockout system. If a game ended in a draw after extra time, it was played a replay.
The Dresdner SC won the cup with a 2-1 win over FC Schalke 04 in front of 70,000 spectators in the Berlin Olympic Stadium .

Match report |
With Schalke 04 and Dresdner SC, the second and third of the German championship in 1941 met, the Dresden team started as a cup defender. Dresden coach Georg Köhler sent his team out on the field with the motto of playing the Schalke defense with long passes on the outside runners. The recipe worked after just nine minutes when left winger Heinrich Kugler brought his team 1-0 up. It took until the restart for the second half before Schalke found their game. With urgent actions they now constricted Dresden in their half of the game, and the half-left striker Ernst Kuzorra was able to equalize in the 54th minute. The DSC was not impressed by this and trusted in its counter-attack. Just two minutes after the equalizer, Dresden's guest player from Hamburger SV, left winger Gustav Carstens, was able to defeat his opponent Herbert Burdenski and put his team in the lead again. The miners continued to try to turn the game around with constant waves of attack, but the Dresden defense withstood the assault and thus secured the cup defense. |
