Herbert Burdenski (born May 19, 1922 in Gelsenkirchen ; † September 15, 2001 there ) was a German soccer player and coach .
Player career
He started his football career at Erler SV 08 in Gelsenkirchen. In 1935 he was discovered at the school championships by Ernst Kuzorra , who brought him to FC Schalke 04 . There he made his debut in the league in March 1940 as an 18-year-old, became part of the Schalke Kreisel and won the German championship in 1940 and 1942. In 1949 the businessman and sports teacher moved to Bremen for professional reasons and from then on he played for Werder Bremen .
"Budde" played his first international match on October 5, 1941 against the national team of Finland in Helsinki. On July 19, 1942 he played against the Bulgarian national team in Sofia. In Beuthen , Burdenski scored his first international goal on August 16, 1942 in a friendly against the Romanian national team. Due to the Second World War , no more international matches were played from the end of 1942. Burdenski scored on November 22, 1950 in the first international match of the senior national team after the Second World War against the Swiss national team in Stuttgart with a penalty for the 1-0 victory. This was followed by an international match against Switzerland on April 15, 1951. Altogether, he made five appearances in the national jersey between 1941 and 1951 and scored two goals.
Coaching career
After his career, he worked as a coach for numerous clubs, including STV Horst-Emscher , Rot-Weiss Essen , Borussia Dortmund , Werder Bremen , Wuppertaler SV and most recently Rot-Weiß Lüdenscheid . He was relegated from the Bundesliga with Rot-Weiss Essen and Borussia Dortmund. Burdenski remained connected to FC Schalke on the honorary council , supervisory board and as a member of the honorary committee until his death . Herbert Burdenski was the father of Hans-Joachim "Jochen" Burdenski, who played soccer in the second team of FC Schalke 04 and also held various positions at the club until his death in December 2014, and his younger brother and Bundesliga keeper Dieter Burdenski and thus grandfather of Fabian Burdenski .
