The Gauliga Sudetenland was one of the top football leagues during the National Socialist era .
history
In the Gauliga Sudetenland from 1938, the teams from the Sudetenland annexed under the Munich Agreement played for the Gaume Championship and thus participation in the final round of the German football championship.
In the first season, the championship was played among the four district champions in cup mode. From 1939 there were two groups whose winners determined the Gaumeister among themselves. The seasons began with twelve teams, but teams had to be eliminated from the game over the course of the season. In the 1940/41 season, therefore, only seven teams were involved in the competition at the end of the season.
In 1941 the number of groups was increased to three, now 18 teams found place in the first division. The three season winners played in a final round from the regional champions who represented the Sportgau in the final round of the German championship. In the following season, the mode was retained, but again had the problem that a number of clubs dropped out of the championship during the season.
In 1943 the teams from the east of the Sportgau were transferred to the Gauliga Böhmen-Moravia , so that again the championship was played in only two groups. In the following season the game was canceled shortly after the start of the season due to the war.
The teams from the Sudetenland had no chance at the finals for the German football championship. Not a single one of the finals could be won. Only NSTG Graslitz managed a 4: 4 draw against Vorwärts-Turf Gleiwitz in 1940 and in 1941 NSTG Prague Tennis Borussia Berlin wrested a 0: 0 draw.
