The Gauliga Mecklenburg (also sports area class Mecklenburg ) was created in 1942 through the war-related division of the previous Gauliga Nordmark into the Gauligen Schleswig-Holstein , Hamburg and Mecklenburg. The only remaining Mecklenburg club from the divided Gauliga Nordmark was the Wehrmacht SG Schwerin , which was withdrawn from play during the season.

On a sporting level, the Mecklenburgers no longer played an important role in imperial football. The TSG Rostock failed already in qualifying for the first round of the German Cup 1942/43 at Holstein Kiel (1: 1, 0: 4). The successor air force SV Rerik was also defeated in the first round by the later semi-finalist HSV Groß Born from the Gauliga Pomerania .

In the 1944/45 season, game operations came to a standstill and championship games were no longer held.
