The Gauliga Hessen was one of 16 football Gauligen that were introduced as the top division in the German Reich after the National Socialist seizure of power in 1933 . It existed until 1941 and was dissolved in the course of a reorganization.

history

The Gau classification 1933,
No. 12 = Hessen

In the Gauliga Hessen, ten teams each played the participants in the final of the German championship. In 1939 the league was divided into two seasons in which six clubs competed against each other. The respective season winners played the area champion, who was qualified for the final round, among themselves in the first and second leg. In 1941 the Gauliga Hessen was dissolved. One part formed the Gauliga Kurhessen , the rest formed the Gauliga Hessen-Nassau with the teams of the Mainhessen relay of the Gauliga Südwest .
