The Gauliga Kurhessen (officially: "Area Class Kurhessen") was one of the highest divisions in German football during the National Socialist era . It was created in 1941 as one of the successors to the Gauliga Hessen when the league system was restructured during the war years.

From 1933 to 1941 the Gauliga Hessen existed as one of the original 16 sports areas. In it one of the participants in the final round of the German championship was played. In 1941 the league was dissolved and the teams were divided into two new divisions. The Gauliga Kurhessen was created in the north and east, in the south the Gauliga Hessen-Nassau was formed from a merger of the Mainhessen squadron of the Gauliga Südwest and the southern part of the Gauliga Hessen .

history

After the new league was founded, nine teams competed for the finals. In 1943 the number of teams was reduced to seven in the course of the season, as some teams had formed war syndicates at short notice or no longer took part in the game. For the season 1944/45 a division into three seasons was planned, but the round was not played. Like the teams from the previous league, the clubs of the Gauliga Kurhessen had no chance in the final round of the German championship and each failed in the first round. In 1944, Borussia Fulda was able to reach the round of 16, but had a bye in the first round and then retired from the eventual champions Dresdner SC with a severe 2: 9 home defeat.
