The Gauliga Köln-Aachen (until 1942: "Sports Area Class Cologne-Aachen") was one of the highest divisions in German football during the National Socialist era in the final phase of World War II .

history

The league was created in 1941 after the Gauliga Mittelrhein was dissolved , and in its place two regionally smaller units took its place. As a result, the Gauliga Mittelrhein was divided into a Gauliga Moselland and the one dealt with here. In Cologne-Aachen nine-ten teams played for the championship title, which guaranteed participation in the German championship. Right from the start, the Gauliga was dominated by clubs from Cologne , each of which decided on the championship title. At the German football championships , however, the champions from Cologne-Aachen did not achieve any successes worth mentioning and were eliminated in the first rounds. Due to the war, there were no more games in the 1944/45 season. After Germany surrendered, the Gauligen were dissolved. With the British Zone Championship there was again a national competition for clubs from North and West Germany in the post-war period.
