↓ District Leagues

The Gauliga Mittelrhein was one of 16 top football leagues that were founded in Germany after the Nazi seizure of power in 1933. In it, the Middle Rhine participant in the final round of the German championship was determined.

history

The Gauliga Mittelrhein started in 1933 in its opening season with 11 teams, but until 1939 changed constantly between ten and eleven participating clubs. In the 1939/40 season, the league was briefly increased to two seasons. In the following season, the Gauliga was contested again on a single track. At the sporting level, the league was clearly determined by the clubs from Cologne at the time of its existence, and by 1944 they had a total of ten championships. The dominance could only be interrupted in the 1937/38 season by SV Beuel 06 . In the associated participation in the German championships, the representatives from the Middle Rhine region did not achieve any successes worth mentioning, and any wins for Victoria were not achieved. The best result was the semi-finals of VfL Cologne in 1899 in the German championship 1940/41 , in which the Rhinelander defeated FC Schalke 04 1: 4.

After the 1940/41 season, the Gauliga was divided into the sports area classes Cologne-Aachen and Moselland .

A.At the beginning of the German championship, Alemannia Aachen was considered the Middle Rhine Gaumeister. However, SV Beuel 06 filed a protest against a game evaluation and was awarded two points from a lost game at the green table, so that the Beuelers were now Middle Rhine champions. However, it was already too late to participate in the final round.
