The Gauliga Mittelrhein 1933/34 was the first season of the Gauliga Mittelrhein of the German Football Association . The clubs of this Gauliga previously played in the districts of the Rhine and Middle Rhine of the West German Game Association and in the district of Rhine / Saar of the South German Football Association . The decision as to which club should be accepted into the Gauliga was not made on a sporting basis, but at the green table , which led to violent protests, as Cologne teams were favored. Further discrepancies within the league formation process ensured that it was decided to increase to eleven clubs.
Mülheimer SV 06 secured the Gaume Championship and qualified for the German soccer championship 1933/34 , in which the Mülheimers finished second in a group with SV Waldhof Mannheim , Kickers Offenbach and Union Böckingen , but this was not enough to advance. In order to be able to continue the league next year with ten clubs, there were three relegated teams this season.
