The Gauliga Hessen-Nassau (officially: "Area Class Hessen-Nassau") was one of the highest divisions in German football during the Nazi era . It was created in 1941 as one of the three successors of the Gauligen Hessen and Südwest .
In 1933, the top divisions in the German Reich were reorganized, 16 Gauligen were established, including the Gauligen Südwest and Hessen. In each of them, one of the participants in the final round of the German championship was played. After the outbreak of the war, some gaulish people were divided up due to the increasingly difficult to organize trips away from home and travel restrictions. The Gauliga Westmark and the Gauliga Kurhessen emerged from the Gauliga Südwest and Hessen in 1941, and the Gauliga Hessen-Nassau was formed from the Mainhessen squadron of the Gauliga Südwest with the southern part of the Gauliga Hessen.
history
In the first season, a total of 13 teams competed in two relays in order to play off the finalists in the final playoffs between the relay winners. From 1942 the league was run on a single track with ten clubs. The league was dominated by Kickers Offenbach . In the first season the club was able to reach the semi-finals of the German championship. There the OFC lost to the eventual champions FC Schalke 04 and had to be content with fourth place after another defeat against Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin . In the following season, the Kickers failed in the round of 16 at TSV 1860 Munich and in the last season played at the end of the first round at FC Mülhausen 93 .
For the 1944/45 season a kind of cup round was planned, for which all remaining teams (about 50) were divided into nine squadrons. Eintracht and FSV Frankfurt formed a war syndicate in season 3 , as did VfL Rödelheim with Rot-Weiß Frankfurt. Games and results are only known sporadically, however, a master was no longer played.
