The Dunlop SV Hanau was a sports club in Hanau that emerged from the company sports association of the rubber and tire manufacturer Dunlop , whose soccer team played in the top division, the Gauliga , at the end of the 1930s .

In football in the goldsmiths and industrial city, FC Hanau 93 was the undisputed number one from the start , only at times FC Viktoria 94 and later in 1860 Hanau could hold a candle to the oldest football club in Hesse. At the end of the 1930s a new force emerged in the west of the city, which was gradually able to work its way up to the level of local rivals. The rise of the works team of the rubber manufacturer Dunlop, who has been based in the city since 1893, was favored on the one hand by the circumstances of the “Third Reich”, whose rulers emphatically promoted company sport, and on the other hand, the club's namesake was also a financially strong sponsor, which attracted 6,000 visitors in 1933 had financed the stadium.

In 1937 the footballers, who were all employed at the Dunlop factory, qualified for the first time for a national competition, the Tschammer Cup , but were eliminated in the first round against Eimsbüttel TV with 0-2. In the league, SV Dunlop was at the end of the 1937/38 season, level on points with 1860 Hanau at the top of the table in the second-class district class and won the deciding game with 2-1. In the subsequent promotion round, Dunlop Hanau prevailed against FC 04 Oberursel, SV Elz and Gießen 1900 and rose to the Gauliga Hessen . In the 1938/39 season , the factory workers around the outstanding middle runner Otto (Otsch) Maier (born on December 1, 1906) in the top division now met the Hanau “old master” FC 93 among others. With two draws at the start - that Home game against neighbor Wachenbuchen (1: 1) took place in front of 1,500 visitors - as well as a 5: 2 win against co-promoted Kurhessen Kassel, the team moved up to third and had caught up with last year's champion Hanau 93. He clearly showed the Werkself the limits with 5-1 in the local derby, but at the end of the round SV Dunlop was able to hold onto the class with 8th place. Due to the beginning of the war, the league was divided into two seasons in the 1939/40 season, but the Dunlop-Elf had to struggle with the athletic survival due to personnel problems. In the 1939/40 and 1940/41 seasons , Dunlop Hanau was only able to keep the league with just 5 points each because KEWA Wachenbuchen (2 points) and SpVgg 1910 Langenselbold (0 points) did even worse. In the 1941/42 round it was enough for the team of coach Rudolf Keller and captain Walter Krause to only win a single season, which meant relegation after four years of membership in the "first division".
