The Gauliga Hessen 1938/39 was the sixth season of the Gauliga Hessen in football. After CSC 03 Kassel achieved the season’s highest result with a 12-2 win over Großauheim on matchday 17, a 2-2 win at relegated Sport Kassel was enough to win the championship one point ahead of defending champion Hanau 93 to secure. CSC 03 Kassel was eliminated in the subsequent final round of the German championship after the group stage. The relegation ranks were occupied by 1. BC Sport Kassel and KEWA Wachenbuchen , but due to the league reform that followed the outbreak of war in the 1939/40 season, both continued to play first class. In the two rounds of promotion, Borussia Fulda and TSV 1860 Hanau were able to prevail, as VfB Friedberg waived, the second placed in promotion group I, VfL TuRa Kassel , moved up.
