The CSC 03 Kassel e. V. is a sports club from Kassel . The best-known division of the club are the footballers who took part in the finals of the German football championship in 1939 and 1940 as champions of the Gauliga Hessen . There are also gymnastics and table tennis divisions .
history
The association was founded on April 4, 1903 as Casseler FV Teutonia 1903 , at that time still with the old spelling Cassel for the city of Kassel . In 1913 the club was renamed Casseler FV Eintracht . This club merged in 1919 with the Sportfreunde Cassel to form VfR 1903 Cassel . The next merger took place in September of the same year, this time with a traditional gymnastics club called Aeltere Casseler Turngemeinde 1848 Kassel to form the Casseler Gymnastics and Sports Club of 1848 , TSV 1848 Cassel for short . The TSV footballers drew attention to themselves in 1921/22 when they made it into the finals of the West German championship. With just one win out of five games, TSV ended up in sixth and last place and thus clearly missed participation in the final round of the German championship .
In 1924, in the course of the clean separation between football and gymnastics, the division into the Aeltere Casseler Turngemeinde 1848 and the Casseler SC 1903 , which began in 1926 for the first time under the current name of CSC 1903 Kassel . From 1928 on, the CSC was three times in a row in the final round of the West German regional championship. After two clearly missed the West German final round, there was a curious final result in the preliminary round group of the CSC in 1930/31 . Behind Fortuna Düsseldorf , Alemannia Aachen , FV 1911 Neuendorf and CSC 1903 were tied. So play-offs were necessary to get into the West German final round. While the Kasselaner were able to prevail against Neuendorf, they lost against Aachen 2: 3 and were thus unhappy.
The most glamorous times of the CSC 03 were the 1930s and 1940s, when the Gauliga Hessen belonged to the highest German league. Here succeeded in the 1938/39 season, the championship and the associated qualification for participation in the finals for the German championship, in which, however, in the preliminary round as bottom of the table at FC Schalke 04 , forward lawn sport Gleiwitz and Wormatia Worms failed. Also in the following season 1939/40 the CSC 03 Kassel won the championship and finished last in the final round.
After the war, the club played almost continuously in the top amateur league, the Hesse amateur league, until the early 1970s. In the 1980s, the CSC 03 was able to build on old success times with the promotion and runner-up in the Oberliga Hessen .
In the period that followed, the club disappeared from national football. In 2008 he was promoted to the so-called group league, previously known as the district league. Even the subsequent fall into the district class could not prevent the team from starting a remarkable march through. This successful streak reached its peak in May 2016 with promotion to the Association League, the second highest amateur class in Hesse, and fifth place in the table in the 2016/17 season.

Venue
Before the war, the club played in the CSC stadium on Nürnberger Strasse . Most of the visitors could be counted here in the group matches for the German championship, when 23,000 spectators came to Nürnberger Strasse against the future German champions FC Schalke 04 . The CSC stadium on Nürnberger Strasse was also destroyed by the bombing raid on Kassel on October 22nd, 1943.
The CSC 03 has played in the Jahnkampfbahn since the post-war period . The stadium offers 4,000 seats, 900 of which are covered.
