from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Günter "Oskar" Siebert (* December 15, 1930 in Kassel ; † June 16, 2017 in Eckernförde ) was a German football player , sports function and president of FC Schalke 04 several times .

Life

Günter Siebert moved from CSC 03 Kassel to FC Schalke 04 in 1951. In 1953 Siebert joined KSV Hessen Kassel and in 1955 returned to FC Schalke 04. There he became one of the most successful strikers of that time in the Oberliga West . He scored 61 goals in 118 games. His greatest success was winning the German championship in 1958 . In the final in Hanover, Schalke defeated Hamburger SV 3-0. In 1959 he had to end his career because of a knee injury.

For a short time he played again in the 2nd League West at Sportfreunde Gladbeck , where he scored nine goals in 23 league games in the 1959/60 season under coach Hermann Eppenhoff .

His second career at Schalke began in 1964 when he was elected Vice President. In 1967 he became the youngest Bundesliga club president of all time. In 1975 Siebert planned to bring the Brazilian international Francisco Marinho from Botafogo FR to Gelsenkirchen. The problem, however, was the high transfer fee of 1.4 million DM for the time . Siebert therefore distributed ballot papers during the home game against FC Bayern Munich . The fans should vote on whether Marinho should be brought in and whether the Schalke fans would accept an increase in admission prices in return. When the votes were due to be counted the next day, however, the ballot boxes had disappeared and Marinho stayed in Brazil .

Siebert remained President of FC Schalke 04 until 1976. During this time, he won the Cup in 1972 and built the Park Stadium , as well as the Bundesliga scandal . Then he was supposed to work as a manager under the new President Karl-Heinz Hütsch from January 1st, 1977 . Siebert terminated his contract after disputes with Hütsch before the start of the contract. From 1978 to 1979 he held the office of president again. He then withdrew from club politics before becoming president again from 1987 to 1988. He was a member of the royal blue honorary board until the end.

Siebert has lived in Gran Canaria since the late 1980s and ran “Oskar's Tanzpub” in the resort of Playa del Inglés - based on his nickname “Oskar”, which he had had since his time as Schalke President.

Günter Siebert died of natural causes on June 16, 2017 at the age of 86 in a foster home in Eckernförde, where his daughter had taken care of him in recent years.

Nicknames

Siebert supposedly got his nickname "Oskar" based on the picture stories Oskar, the family man , which appeared in the 50s and early 60s. Günter Siebert and his wife Hanne had seven children. Siebert was also called “trout” because he pulled a trout out of a river bed with his bare hand in front of his teammates.
