The Gauliga middle was from 1933 a top of 16 football Gauligen that after the Nazi seizure of power were established in Germany. With their playout, the Central German participant in the final round of the German Championship was determined. The Gauliga Mitte essentially comprised the current area of the federal states of Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia , as well as small peripheral areas of northern Saxony and southwest Brandenburg .
history
The Gauliga Mitte started its opening season with ten clubs from 1933 and kept this structure constant until 1944 , with the exception of a temporary reduction due to the resetting of SV 08 Steinach and 1. FC Lauscha . At the sporting level, the league was impressively determined by SV Dessau 05 and 1. SV 03 Jena , which together won ten championships. During the associated participation in the German championships, the representatives of the Gauliga Mitte did not achieve any successes worth mentioning.
In the 1944/45 season, the Gauliga Mitte was then only played regionally. The league was divided into five seasons: (1) Magdeburg-Schönebeck , (2) Anhalt , (3) Köthen-Bernburg , (4) Jahn and (5) Erfurt . Game operations in the region came to a complete standstill after just a few game days due to the rapidly developing chaos of war.

District classes
The district classes Halle-Merseburg , Magdeburg-Anhalt and Erfurt-Thuringia formed the second-class substructure of the Gauliga Mitte . The three district champions then played the two promoted players in the Gauliga in a promotion round. From 1940/41 the district classes were renamed 1st class .
