The district class Erfurt-Thuringia , (later also 1st class Erfurt-Thuringia ), was one of three second-class soccer leagues in the Sportgau Mitte during the National Socialist era . In addition to the Magdeburg-Anhalt district class and the Halle-Merseburg district class, it served as a substructure for the Gauliga Mitte and existed from 1933 to 1943 - over ten season series.
[* from 1940/41 season: 1st class Erfurt-Thuringia ]
history
After the dissolution of the Association of Central German Ball Game Associations due to the co-ordination , in 1933 all the associations from the association were classified in Gaue V Sachsen and VI Mitte . From Thuringia, the two best clubs from the 1932/33 season of the Gauliga North Thuringia , as well as both winners of the Gauliga East Thuringia 1932/33 and the Gauliga South Thuringia 1932/33, received a place for the first-class Gauliga in mid-1933/34 . All other, less well-placed clubs from the Thuringian districts, which existed until 1933, were assigned to existing lower divisions by association decree.
The district class Erfurt-Thuringia started with 12 participating clubs. Below the new district class were six district classes: (1) Wartburg , (2) West Thuringia (from 1936: Hainaut ), (3) North Thuringia (from 1936: Erfurt ), (4) South Thuringia , (5) East Thuringia (from 1936: Weimar ) and (6) Osterland . The title holder of the district class qualified for the promotion round to Gauliga Mitte by playing off the (mostly) two promoted to Gauliga with the winners of the two other Gau district classes. For the 1939/40 season, the district class was then divided into two seasons, west and south . Both season winners then played the district championship and participants for the Gauliga promotion in a final game. In 1940/41 the league was renamed 1st Class Thuringia and increased to eight clubs per season. Due to the war, the development at that time led to voluntary withdrawals of clubs, but unfortunately to fewer and fewer participation reports. In 1943 the first classes in the Gau were dissolved. The new second league level, formed from now on the district classes.
Except twice, the winner of the Erfurt-Thuringia district class was also able to prevail in the three-way promotion round and move up to the Gauliga middle. Only in 1933/34 and 1942/43 did the Thuringian soccer champions not make it to the top division. The 1. FC 07 Lauscha and the SC Erfurt in 1895 were twice each decide for the district championship. The Erfurt Sport Club from 1895 rose in both cases.
