The Halle-Merseburg district class in 1939/40 was the seventh season of the second-rate Halle-Merseburg district class, which had served as the substructure for the Gauliga Mitte since 1933 . The season's title holder was the Zeitz sports association from 1910 , which in the past five years had already won five places in the top five of the table. Finally, in Burgenland , you were rewarded with the championship title of the class. This feat was achieved with a considerable lead of five points, far from FC Wacker Halle 1900 , the flagship club of the region, who started the race as a big favorite . VfL 1912 Merseburg took third place in front of Borussia 02 Halle, which, after their almost disaster last year, took a good fourth place this year. Bitterfeld and Leuna stayed in the middle of the table for the entire season and were therefore never in real danger of relegation. Since only one relegation place was advertised in this first war championship, this actually also applied to the black and yellow from Weißenfels, their local rivals, who had beaten off the gymnastics and grass ballers early and had to make their way down. Due to the Gauliga descent of SV Merseburg 99 , however, the second club in the city also had to follow the path of its counterpart in the lower league class. A total of six points were an eloquent expression of the TuRVW's inadequate competitiveness. Due to the political situation, the season was completed with only 9 participating clubs. The new places to be taken for the 1940/41 season, after a round with only four of five district representatives, won the right to participate in FC Preußen 01 Merseburg and the unknown SG Mockrehna , an absolute newcomer. The master of the Kyffhäuser district was excluded from participation in the promotion round due to an association decision, agreed in the run-up to the season, for geographic and infrastructural reasons due to the lack of war .
